Colombia. Barrancabermeja is advancing in its strategy to increase community safety, launching 19 technological kits in priority areas of the district. The project includes surveillance cameras, alarms for the community and panic buttons, with an investment that exceeds $4,500 million.
During the last week, officials from the Secretariat of Security and Coexistence, together with the contractor company, made technical visits to the Santa Bárbara, Cincuentenario and Bosques de la Cira neighborhoods, located in commune Cuatro. The objective: to identify strategic areas to establish safe points, previously known as security fronts.
"The initial contract includes the implementation of a set of cameras, community alarms and panic buttons," said Eduardo Ramírez Alipio, secretary of Security and Coexistence of the district.
The project also includes the recovery of 122 existing cameras and the installation of new units in sectors defined according to technical criteria of risk and criminal incidence.
Edwin Uribe, head of the UT BCA 2024 Video Surveillance project, explained that all sectors will have PTZ cameras, "with the ability to rotate in vertical and horizontal planes, and that provide automatic or manual zoom in and out functions." These cameras will be linked to a surveillance center, facilitating the prompt response of the authorities to any circumstance.
Community alarms will also play a key role, as they will be linked to the surveillance system and will allow residents to report cases of theft, micro-trafficking and other crimes in real time. "The new technological capabilities will allow the authority to respond in a timely manner and the community to report situations," Ramírez Alipio explained.
From the benefited areas, community leaders expressed their support for the proposal. The president of the Community Action Board of Santa Barbara, Alexander Riveras, highlighted: "The contribution of the cameras supports the National Police and promotes the instant reaction of the community."
The action led by the Mayor's Office aims to establish a safer and more organized environment, promoting collaboration between the local government, the public force and citizens through specific technological solutions that directly impact the common welfare.
