Latin America. Cybersecurity tactics have become a crucial element to ensure digital safeguarding in highly regulated and highly innovative areas, such as biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. The implementation of continuous monitoring solutions ensures the integrity of data in critical environments, minimizing operational and compliance risks.
Within the framework of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT), the interconnection between systems is essential to improve processes. However, in order to achieve reliable performance, the data generated must come from accurate measurements and be adequately protected. For this reason, it is essential to have effective cybersecurity strategies that protect computer systems against possible vulnerabilities.
The company Vaisala, an expert in industrial measurements and environmental monitoring, has intensified its security protocols to ensure the integrity and reliability of its systems, used in regulated sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and food.
According to Ricardo Parada, Vaisala's director of applications and sales in Mexico, the devices created by the company facilitate the measurement of vital parameters such as temperature, relative humidity, dew point, carbon dioxide, hydrogen peroxide for biodecontamination and fluid concentration. These measurements are essential to reduce operational risks, comply with current regulations, and improve energy efficiency.
Vaisala ensures that it maintains high security standards in the technological infrastructure and in the relationship with its suppliers, through audits, specific requirements and the permanent updating of its systems. Among the solutions created for critical environments, the ViewLinc constant surveillance system stands out, used to control environmental conditions during the manufacture and storage of medicines and medical devices, according to good manufacturing practices (GxP).
"Measurement systems may not be the main target of a cyberattack, but if they have vulnerabilities, they could become a path to sensitive data," warns Parada. This includes sensitive information such as financial files, customer data or industrial formulas.
The ViewLinc system makes it easy to manage settings, log modifications, and prevent data modification or deletion without the need for processing. According to Parada, these procedures help preserve the traceability and reliability of information, while strengthening security in linked networks.
The industry argues that cyberattacks should not be interpreted as independent events, but as actions aimed at taking advantage of various vulnerabilities, both in systems and processes. Therefore, constant and proactive safeguarding of digital infrastructure is critical to protecting data integrity and user trust.
