Colombia. Sincelejo reported on the placement of 100 video surveillance cameras in the pink sector of the city, an area of commerce and nightlife. The surveillance system will be linked to a monitoring center, where continuous monitoring of the captured images will be carried out.
The video surveillance plan is part of a package of measures that was discussed in a meeting between Mayor Yahir Acuña, representatives of the National Police and merchants in the area. The camera circuit will be complemented by the installation of panic buttons in shops and the reinforcement of police patrols.
At the meeting, Mayor Acuña reiterated the institutional support to ensure the protection of business owners and residents who travel the region. Although no precise date was set for the implementation of the camera system, the authorities reported that the installation will begin in the coming weeks, giving priority to the places of greatest activity or danger.
The supervision plan will be enriched with awareness days on forms of extortion and reporting channels, managed by the Gaula of the National Police.
