Latin America. The Mayor's Office of Cali implemented 96 new surveillance cameras, located in 48 key places in the city. This increase is a component of the process of updating the video surveillance system, which currently has 80% operational coverage, according to official data.
The most recent camera was located on Cañasgordas Avenue, at the intersection of roads to Jamundí. This area belongs to the Southwest Metropolitan Area (AMSO), an area that the authorities give priority to reinforce security.
The locations were selected based on analyses carried out by the Security Observatory and the Metropolitan Police. The cameras feature technology that allows for 360-degree monitoring and target tracking.

Mayor Alejandro Eder said: "We are recovering the security of Cali and we are doing it by modernizing the video surveillance system. It is an instrument that allows us to visualize, attend and, on many occasions, react and investigate incidents. That is why our goal is to strengthen the system and leave it with modern components, in such a way that it will help us to make decisions regarding the safety and tranquility of the people of Cali."
The Secretary of Security and Justice, Jairo García, indicated that the system seeks to incorporate Artificial Intelligence components and connectivity with the HEXA command and control center, contemplated in the Development Plan. "State-of-the-art cameras have been incorporated, in accordance with the best possible technical standards, so that the system can identify a target to follow it, while still monitoring the 360 degrees of the area."
Within the framework of the AMSO, two of the new cameras were installed in the Cali-Jamundí corridor. In this regard, the mayor of Jamundí, Paola Castillo, said: "Within the framework of the AMSO we are fulfilling our community. Thanks to the support of Mayor Eder, we improved technological capabilities to strengthen security, for the benefit of the inhabitants of Cali and our municipality."
The expansion of the system is part of the Public Policy on Citizen Security and actions of the current administration to improve the technological and operational infrastructure related to urban security.
