Latin America. A public sector entity in charge of wastewater treatment in Brazil implemented Milestone Systems' XProtect video management software (VMS) as part of its strategy to monitor and protect its network of treatment plants, reservoirs, and operational facilities that guarantee water supply to more than 2 million residents.
The organization manages hundreds of operational points, many located in remote areas, making it increasingly difficult to sustain traditional methods of surveillance. With the support of Brasília Segurança, it integrated 670 cameras from different manufacturers and centralized the operation in a Global Monitoring Center, equipped with a four-meter LED video wall and operator workstations.
The system allows for immediate visual verification and coordination of incident response. "The solidity of the system gives us confidence. It is not just any VMS, with it we have the full certainty of being able to meet any storage, analysis or image processing requirement. The security of information, both generated at the network edge and stored within the system, is fundamental for us," said Renan Humberto de Souza Cavalcante, technical manager of Brasília Segurança.
The platform also integrates access control and alarm systems, as well as the XProtect Rapid Review license plate recognition analysis tool. When an alarm is triggered, "our operators immediately access video recordings from that location and review the previous two minutes to understand the situation. If we confirm an unauthorized entry, we immediately alert our security team and provide continuous remote support through camera feeds, which are managed by the Milestone VMS," explained Cavalcante.
The bank plans to add an additional 400 cameras and is evaluating facial recognition solutions and XProtect Rapid Review forensic analysis module licenses to expand its capabilities. "Migrating to a data-driven security platform has completely changed the way we protect our critical infrastructure. What started as an initiative to reduce costs has grown into a comprehensive solution that not only protects assets more effectively, but also generates actionable insights to continuously improve our operations," added Cavalcante.
