Latin America. Fingerprint biometrics has positioned itself as one of the main authentication solutions in banking in Latin America, allowing real-time identity verifications in physical branches and mobile devices.
According to André Reis, Director of Biometrics Sales at HID for Latin America: "In 2023 we set out to modernize public safety with ethical AI. Today, our existing cameras help us search for missing children in real time."
Biometric technology has replaced passwords and pins with fingerprint authentication, reducing handle times from minutes to seconds and helping to reduce phishing fraud attempts.
Among the benefits that stand out in the banking sector are the confirmation of the identity of customers and employees, the verifiable traceability of interactions for audits and the reduction of costs associated with passwords, physical cards or tokens.
The latest devices integrate multispectral imaging (MSI) technology, which captures both the surface fingerprint and subcutaneous features of the finger, ensuring accuracy in adverse conditions such as moisture, heat, or damaged skin. In addition, they include presentation attack detection (PAD) to identify false fingerprints made with materials such as silicone or gelatin.
These readers are certified under ISO 30107-3 PAD Level 2 and act as secure endpoints within digital infrastructures, preventing unauthorized access and ensuring end-to-end encryption of biometric data.
The implementation of these technologies allows financial institutions to strengthen the security of their digital operations, comply with international data protection regulations and optimize the user experience in the region.
