Colombia— The Mayor's Office of Sincelejo announced the installation of security cameras in the Immediate Attention Centers (CAI) of the National Police, as part of a package of 40 actions aimed at strengthening security in the capital of Sucre.
Mayor Yahir Acuña Cardales made the announcement during the awards ceremony for outstanding police officers, held at the José Luis Quessep Municipal Theater. "We are going to take some measures in all the CAI, we are going to install security cameras. We already talked about that with Colonel Aimer Alonso, commander of the Sucre Police, and they will begin to be installed on August 15," he said.
The president explained that the objective is to complement the video surveillance system already existing in the neighborhoods. "It is important that they have the complementarity of the cameras and not only with those existing in the neighborhoods," he added.
During the event, in which the work of officers such as Lieutenant Carlos Iván Granados, in charge of the CAI of Gran Colombia, was exalted, the mayor stressed that "at least 90% of the crimes that have been committed in the capital of Sucre have been clarified, including homicide."
The installation of these cameras is part of a comprehensive security strategy that seeks to increase response capacity and improve the investigation of crimes in Sincelejo.
