Colombia. KNX Grupo Nacional Colombia and Ventas de Seguridad magazine were present at the seventh edition of EXPO I 2025 – Colombia, the international Smart City, Safe Cities and Smart Citizenship event that took place from May 28 to 30 at the Sheraton Hotel in Bogotá.
The event, which highlighted the importance of security in smart cities, brought together government representatives, companies and experts from various parts of the world.
In this edition, it was highlighted that "the Colombian Senate pointed to the event as the leading summit in Latin America on Smart, Sustainable and Connected Territories". Additionally, on May 28, a session of the Sixth Constitutional Commission of the Senate was held, focused on Bill 442 of 2025, "through which artificial intelligence is regulated in Colombia to guarantee its ethical and responsible development."
During the meeting, a large group of mayors and security secretaries from cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, Manizales, Pereira, among others, presented their progress and strategies in terms of Smart City and citizen security. This agenda made it possible to highlight the commitment of Colombia's large urban agglomerations to integrate technology and security in the construction of smart territories.
The event also awarded on May 29 the ICII International Award in its second version (Smart and Innovative City Initiatives), with the support of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá and organized by Asocapitales, Asointermedias, Smart Urban Net, Sand Box Foundation and Impacto TIC, among other allies. The recognition included seven categories that highlighted the impact on "innovation in the public sector, innovation in the private sector, urban vision, safe cities, environment and sustainability, city technology and intermediary cities".
The EXPO I 2025 trade fair was attended by international and Colombian technology brands that presented success stories in security, solutions for smart territories and high-impact technological developments. According to the organizers, "the event included a commercial exhibition of very high value, disruptive and with great success stories," in which delegations from entities such as the National Police and the National Navy participated, who exhibited technological innovations for citizen security.
In addition, mayors and governments of Madrid (Spain), Turin (Italy) – a city that won two European awards as the most innovative city in Europe and European Capital of Smart Tourism – and the Government of Cusco (Peru), among others, participated. Organizations such as the Delegation in Colombia of the European Union and the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) also had spaces to share replicable experiences in Latin America.
From the Colombian Government, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Republic, the Directorate of Digital Development of the National Planning Department and the MinTIC attended, which highlighted its Smart City initiatives such as the smart territories maturity model and projects such as "Mompox Inteligente". Entities such as the CAR of Cundinamarca and technology companies reinforced the interest in strengthening security and connectivity in cities.
Bogotá, as host, presented the Mayor's Office, the ICT Ministry, the Ministry of International Relations, and entities such as the Bogotá Metro and Transmilenio, which showed their progress in mobility and security projects. Also present were intermediate cities such as Lórica, Rionegro, Calarcá, Itagüí and others attached to Asointermedias, which shared their experiences in urban development and security strategies.
With the participation of media from Barcelona (Spain), Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Colombia, the event reaffirmed its role as a key space for the strengthening of security sales and the implementation of innovative technologies in smart cities.
EXPO I 2025 consolidated Bogotá as the epicenter of safe cities and smart citizenship, with a global view of technology and security as pillars for the development of smart, sustainable and connected territories.
