Uruguay. It was officially announced that 586 cameras will be installed in 176 sites in the departments of Rocha and Canelones, which will also have LPR (registration plate reading) licenses, as part of the Ministry of the Interior's strategy to combat vehicle thefts.
Luis Alberto Heber, Minister of the Interior, reported that the 586 cameras will be installed in 176 sites in Rocha and Canelones, of which 42 will allow license plate recognition to combat vehicle theft. The announcement was made within the framework of the inauguration of the Fire Department in Punta del Diablo.
The committee that accompanied this inauguration was made up of the general director of the Ministry's Secretariat, Nicolás Martinelli; the president of Mevir, Juan Pablo Delgado; the general secretary of the Municipality of Rocha, Valentín Martínez; the director of the National Police, José Manuel Azambuya; the national director of Firefighters, Ricardo Riaño, and the police chief of Canelones, Víctor Trezza.
In Rocha, the minister presented 10 sites where some 30 video surveillance cameras will be found, and detailed that they will be installed on Route 9 at the entrances to La Esmeralda, Punta del Diablo, La Coronilla, Barra de Chuy, Castillos and Arbolito; also on route 10, at the entrance to La Pedrera, Cabo Polonio, Barra de Valizas and Aguas Dulces.
In addition, as indicated on the website of the Uruguayan presidency in his speech, he referred to the outstanding work of Mevir in carrying out the works at the Punta del Diablo Fire Station.
Likewise, "he expressed the need to build more detachments for the Republican Guard in the department, and assumed the commitment to remodel the police stations in the towns of Velázquez and Lascano."
Regarding these improvements, the official explained that the works will ensure the conditions for citizens to attend to file their complaints.
