United States. Vivint Smart Home, Inc., a company specializing in smart homes, announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against ADT in the U.S. District. Utah District Court.
In the complaint, Vivint claims that ADT infringes six of Vivint's U.S. patents related to security and smart home technology. Vivint claims to have more than 300 patents issued related to its patented technology.
The Company issued the following statement:
"Vivint invests millions of dollars to develop the best products and services for its customers, as well as to patent and protect this technology. We will vigorously protect and defend our unique intellectual property and innovations."
Vivint developed and launched its own proprietary platform in 2014 to offer customers a fully integrated smart home security system.
Vivint seeks compensation for ADT infringement of the claimed patents.
In response to this demana, ADT made a short announcement: "ADT believes that Vivint's claims are unfounded and intends to vigorously defend itself against the lawsuit."
