29/03/2011. The Senate Public Security Committee approved tonight reforms to the Federal Private Security Law in order to put companies that offer alarm and electronic monitoring services in the belt.
The approved opinion, which is expected to be turned over to the plenary next Thursday, empowers the authorities to inspect the way in which companies operate and will be supervised that they provide their service properly.
The president of the commission, the PAN Felipe González, explained that it is a minute that had already been sent to the Chamber of Deputies and that they returned with small modifications related to numerals.
"The important thing is that it regulates alarm and monitoring companies, since the current problem is that they do not give customer service as it should," he explained.
With the approval, the requirements that companies must meet will be established, as well as the minimum security conditions, so that they are identified clearly and accurately.
The initiative was presented on November 27, 2008 by Felipe González González himself and Senator Humberto Aguilar Coronado, also of the PAN.
In addition, the session approved an amendment to the General Law of the National Public Security System so that the disclosure of a Citizen Manual for Risk Prevention is established within the National Public Security System.
"Today we are seeing it in Japan, earthquakes and tsunamis, we have seen it in other places with floods and tremors and in Mexico we have not been able to protect ourselves against those phenomena.
"Now we are only prepared to react against criminals, not against events that could cause enormous damage caused by nature, but with this approval we take an important step," González said.
The initiative was presented at the time by PAN Senator Adrián Rivera Pérez and is also expected to be approved by the plenary to take turns in the Chamber of Deputies for its constitutional effects.
