Puerto Rico. A centralized monitoring operation developed by Genesis Security was able to significantly reduce the volume of false alarms in its security systems, thanks to the integration of Milestone Systems ' XProtect Corporate video management software with Actuate's AI-based analytics.
The solution allowed the company to optimize its Remote Video Monitoring (RVM) model and improve the ability to respond to real threats in different sectors of the island.
Genesis Security, a security integrator with operations in Puerto Rico, provides surveillance and monitoring services for entertainment venues, residential units, airports, and government facilities. Prior to implementing the new technology solution, operators received more than 96,000 motion-based alerts daily, making it difficult to quickly identify real threats.
With the integration of Milestone's XProtect VMS and Actuate's intelligent filtering, the company was able to reduce alerts by 62%, from 96,000 to approximately 37,000 verified events per day. This change improved operational efficiency and accelerated incident response.
- Publicidad -"Actuate has been key to reducing false alarms and increasing real-time threat detection," said Yasel Morales, CIO of Genesis Security.
Intelligent analytics to filter relevant events
Milestone's open architecture allows Genesis to integrate cameras from multiple manufacturers installed in thousands of locations. Actuate's AI analytics connect through Milestone's protocol interface and receive JPEG images only when motion is detected, which contributes to reducing bandwidth consumption, a relevant factor considering Puerto Rico's geography and connectivity infrastructure.
For more advanced analytics, such as weapon detection, the platform extracts higher-resolution video streams using Milestone's ONVIF Network Bridge, sending alerts directly to the event server.
The combined solution allows you to detect and classify different types of threats, including:
- Intrusions
- Prowling
- Crowd formation
- Weapon Detection
With this intelligent filtering, operators receive only verified alerts, making it easy to focus resources on actionable events.
"Video verification represents a significant improvement for law enforcement, as they can visually confirm a threat before responding," said Ken Francis, CEO of Actuate.
When a confirmed threat is detected, operators use Milestone's real-time map display to track the person of interest through different cameras. In addition, they can activate speakers to deter intruders and coordinate the dispatch of the nearest security officer.
Genesis has more than 60 operational units available 24 hours a day, ensuring a rapid response at the scene of the incident.
All communications, alerts, live video feeds and dispatch flows are managed from Milestone's centralized interface, facilitating coordination between the various monitored sites.
Infrastructure designed for Puerto Rico's conditions
Due to the challenges of an island with diverse terrain, mixed communication networks, and electrical instability, Genesis designed a resilient infrastructure that includes:
- Redundant video servers with automatic failover
- Hybrid connectivity via fiber, wireless links, and LTE
- Seneca servers distributed across customer sites, connected via Milestone Interconnect
This approach allows operational monitoring to be maintained even when there are power or communications interruptions.
"Genesis and Actuate have done an exceptional job demonstrating how open platform technology and AI analytics solve real-world security challenges across multiple industries," said Johana Arias, Director of Sales, LATAM, Milestone Systems.
Genesis Security employs more than 5,000 people and serves a wide variety of clients in Puerto Rico. Currently, more than 20 residential communities have already migrated from the traditional on-call schemes to the virtual monitoring model implemented by the company.
As organizations in the region seek smarter and more scalable security solutions, the centralized monitoring approach adopted by Genesis is beginning to position itself as a model for security transformation across multiple sites and sectors.
