Latin America. Within the framework of the ESS+ 2025 International Security Fair, Genetec presented Security Sales with an overview of trends and challenges in the Latin American region. Cristian Barrasa, regional sales director that covers Spanish-speaking South America, Panama and Costa Rica, highlighted the need to move towards integrated systems that allow video surveillance, access control and fire or intrusion detection to be managed in a coordinated manner.
The integration of these platforms, according to industry experts, responds to a growing demand for greater operational efficiency and incident response capacity. In countries such as Colombia, where security infrastructure varies significantly between urban and rural areas, the interoperability of systems becomes a critical factor in reducing vulnerabilities and optimizing resources.
In addition to technological unification, the migration to cloud solutions has gained relevance. This model allows data and application management to be centralized, offering scalability and remote access, although it poses new challenges in terms of cybersecurity. For Barrasa, the adoption of open architectures – capable of integrating devices from different manufacturers – is a key element to avoid dependence on a single supplier and facilitate the modernization of existing systems.
Genetec's presence in Colombia, with a local office and a team of 13 people, also reflects the growing maturity of the security industry in the region. Beyond technology, the company promotes the training of integrators and end users, in a context where collaboration between the public and private sectors is essential to face the challenges of urban security and the management of critical infrastructure.
In this sense, the fair not only served as a showcase for innovations, but also as a space to discuss the evolution of electronic security in Latin America, where efficiency, cyber protection and interoperability of systems appear as determining factors for the coming decades.
