Artificial Intelligence, a key ally for video surveillance in smart cities

Artificial Intelligence

Latin America. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming a great ally for smart cities, especially for the proper functioning of video surveillance solutions, since it allows the automation of processes and the detection of anomalous behaviors.

According to the United Nations, smart cities "are those that use technology as a tool to optimize the efficiency of the city and its economy, as long as it serves to improve the quality of life of citizens and protect nature." Issue that is aligned with data and analytics trends for 2023 that indicate an increase in the use of AI by companies.

For the Colombian Chamber of Informatics and Telecommunications (Cámara Colombiana de Informática y Telecomunicaciones in Sapnish) "a city is more efficient to the extent that it is capable of collecting data generated by multiple sources, mainly due to the monitoring that is carried out with security video cameras and installed sensors."

According to Axis Communications “the use of AI allows the automation of processes and the improvement of experiences, making it easier for the personnel in charge of video surveillance to search and fix their attention on a specific video. For example, if you want to search for a specific person or object, the AI will be very useful.”

In other words, for the brand, using AI in video surveillance solutions in smart cities brings benefits, since it is constantly learning, making it ideal for detecting unusual behavior.

“This intelligence is self-taught, constantly feeding on information and can detect if there are any anomalies. For example, it considers it normal to see several cars traveling on the road and can detect when there is a traffic jam. This is very useful so that an alert is generated and a solution can be found in time.”

Ignacio Cabañas, Key Account Manager of Axis Communications, assured: "Axis seeks to take video surveillance further and that is why we are continually generating improvements that allow us to provide viable solutions to the problems faced by large cities, especially in terms of sustainability. and security. Plus, everything about Axis analytics solutions is designed to be simple. From quick and intuitive setup to seamless integration with your own systems, thanks to our open platform.”

Finally, it is worth mentioning that Axis has several analytics solutions that are adaptable and scalable to user needs. What these analytics seek is to provide information based on audio, video and other data that allow effective action, an issue that is possible thanks to the AI used in data conversion.
