International. Salto announced the acquisition of the company specialized in facial recognition, Cognitec, which offers through its patented technology, a reliable implementation of identity, privacy and security policies.
Investing in Cognitec allows Salto to control the technology from its source, with a wide range of applications for both current and future Salto customers.
Cognitec, based in Germany, has offices in Australia, Spain and the US, including a large team of scientists and engineers dedicated to R&D at its German headquarters. Cognitec's portfolio includes solutions for searching facial image databases, researching recorded videos, real-time video projection and people analysis, border control, capturing ICAO-compliant photographs, and evaluating the quality of facial images. The company's flagship FaceVACS algorithm has been continuously validated by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) performance tests.
Since its founding in 2002, Cognitec has partnered with government entities, law enforcement agencies and business customers in more than 50 countries. For example, Germany's Border Police uses Cognitec technology to facilitate the automatic verification of passports and the capture of biometric photographs within the European Entry/Exit System (EES).
"Working with Cognitec gives Salto the opportunity to integrate emerging biometrics, facial recognition and artificial intelligence technologies into our Group's products and platforms to create new solutions and services that benefit all of our customers," said Marc Handels, Director of Technology Innovation at Salto Systems.
"Cognitec's technology is highly compatible and integrable in the Salto product portfolio of access control, smart ticket offices and booking and ticketing solutions. Incorporating apps like frictionless check-in and hands-free access to our apps will improve Salto's customer experience, whether it's used in business, residential, or leisure and fitness," Said Handels.
Cognitec CEO Alfredo Herrera said he welcomes the partnership that will benefit both businesses and all customers.
"Salto is a strong company and is well positioned globally. Their expanding footprint offers us an incredible opportunity to reach the fastest growing markets in facial recognition while also expanding our established business with our mature facial recognition products," said Herrera.
