International. An electronic security project was executed in a commercial fishing vessel company in Canada, in which Vivotek contributed with its camera and monitoring solutions.
For more than three decades, Archipelago Marine Research has helped fishermen, coastal communities and industry regulators implement sustainable practices through sea and dock observation programs, electronic monitoring technology and marine environmental services.
The archipelago's fisheries monitoring programs are optimized for each type of fishery, vessel and gear; employing human observers or automated alternatives as appropriate. As the largest and oldest observation services company in Western Canada, Archipelago has led the development of video-based fisheries monitoring alternatives for more than a decade; Today, the company's diverse portfolio of fisheries monitoring programs and services spans across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and beyond.
In addition to monitoring fishing activity on commercial fishing vessels to ensure they stay within their catch limits and following fishing regulations, offshore poaching and piracy have also become a major concern. Implementing resilient and effective monitoring solutions in some extremely difficult scenarios, such as on ship decks and rigging in extremely cold and violent climates, as well as in saltwater nautical conditions has become a challenge.
Solution
Archipelago came to Vivotek USA with the problems they faced. As a result, Archipelago chose Vivotek's FD9367-HV as it has an IP66-rated and IK10 vandal-proof weatherproof housing, making it rugged and reliable, even in harsh marine environments.
Finally, Archipelago chose 1,500 Vivotek cameras based on the overall cost of the camera and the quality of the sea to be used on its vessels around the world. Some of the cameras chosen to be installed on ships in the archipelago include the Vivotek FD9367-HV and FD9367-HTV.
The FD9367-HV is the new professional outdoor IR dome network camera equipped with a Full HD sensor capable of a resolution of 1920x1080 at 30 fps. With the most up-to-date Vivotek SNV and WDR Pro technology, the FD9367-HV is capable of capturing the highest quality images in low-light, high-contrast environments.
The FD9367-HV also offers a great image at night by equipping IR illuminators with an effective range of up to 30 meters. With an IP66 and IK10 rated housing, the FD9367-HV is capable of operating in the harshest conditions.
In addition, the FD9367-HV employs Vivotek's Smart Stream III technology and H.265 compression codec, reducing bandwidth by more than 90 percent and maintaining excellent image quality compared to traditional H.264 without intelligent transmission. In addition, Vivotek VADP (Vivotek Application Development Platform) allows users to add custom programs for various applications and user scenarios.
The FD9367-HV and FD9367-HTV are the ideal solutions for fishing vessels in the archipelago, as they are made with casings built to withstand working temperatures between -4 degrees F and 122 degrees F. This ensures that the cameras can continue to function normally, even in conditions of extreme cold and violent weather typically experienced on boat decks.
Customer Feedback
"We chose the FD9367-HV and FD9367-HTV for several factors, and it has proven on our vessels as a reliable safety solution," said Mike Orcutt, Archipelago Field Services Manager. "The total cost plus its marine value made it the best choice for us and it's now being used offshore around the world."
