Bolivia. In the city of La Paz, the number of cameras installed will increase with the integration of 150 more that will increase the urban security service of the Bolivian capital.
This was confirmed by the head of the General Directorate of Public Security, Preventive Police and Municipal Traffic of La Paz Omar Valdez Neria, who made the announcement, after the discovery of a lifeless person on November 9 in the vicinity of the Agua Escondida neighborhood.
"The idea on our part is to place 150 more cameras," the director said, "on sidewalks that we consider necessary." However, he did not know the current number of video cameras that monitor the city and pointed out that, due to this, at the moment the management in his charge makes an evaluation in this regard.
"We are planning the areas where we do not yet have coverage as such," Valdez Neria explained. "We want to strengthen what exists with what we do not have, then, in the first instance, see what we have: to work from then on in those areas that we would be missing to be able to cover."
The director explained that it will be through the Contribution Fund for the Strengthening of Municipalities (Fortamun) how the necessary resources for the acquisition and installation of surveillance equipment will be obtained. However, he clarified that this may be until 2020.
"We are talking about 3 million pesos, more or less," said the municipal official, "but this in the first instance: already depending on the needs and capacities may increase."
