International. Information security is a topic that has been known for many years. However, with the use of new technologies, a term was coined that refers to the security of all the information found on the network: cybersecurity.
"Cybersecurity is a practice that defends attacks that occur in cyberspace. That is, everything that is related to the internet and what is connected to the communications network," explained Jorge Garibay, Executive Director of Governance and IT Risk for the company Pink Elephant.
Cybersecurity faces threats such as malware or malicious software, which aim to damage the servers of data recipients, gaining access to their base stored on the network. This type of threat is not irrelevant, its seriousness lies in the fact that cyber criminals can use the stolen information to falsify an identity or manipulate it to directly affect the stability of a company.
Within the world of cybersecurity there are some threats that emerge due to the vulnerabilities presented by devices connected to the network. The main dangers are not exclusive to large financial companies, because in daily life there are situations that put at risk the cybersecurity of all those who access the internet.
Bring Your Own Device: These types of trends that consist of "bringing your own device" to organizations, schools or businesses, have generated increased vulnerabilities in information security systems, because if the user of the device does not have security standards and connects his computer to the network, the private information of the company can be at risk.
A prevention strategy is necessary for places that adopt this type of trend, because the devices that connect to your network could be infected with some type of malware that could contaminate the entire corporate network.
IoT devices: With the advent of the internet and technological evolution, the IoT has become a point of attack for cyber criminals. The fact of being able to connect most of the equipment that is used in daily life represents an important vulnerability for cybersecurity.
Cyberbullying: This concept has to do with harassment or nuisance mainly to children and adolescents through the Internet. With the growth and impact of social networks, they become a latent threat to the security of the information that is published in them. Therefore, it is important to access the information that is generated in order to make users of social networks aware of the threats that arise by not creating strategies to protect the information of the platforms.
Currently all companies, regardless of the sector to which they belong, can be subject to possible attacks. It is likely that there are those who have already been victims of a cyberattack and do not know it, either of theft of information through the web or through transactions.
Jorge Garibay assures that "Every day there are new technologies and information networks, which generates new emerging threats. Currently more than 55% of the world's population has access to the internet, which makes us all vulnerable."
Cybersecurity threats are never going to end, because as technology advances and intercom networks increase, risks grow and cybercriminals find a way to access devices.
