International. HID Global announced the acquisition of HydrantID, a provider of management and automation services for data protection, IT systems, networking and the Internet of Things (IoT) in enterprise organizations.
Specializing in public key infrastructure (PKI) as a service, HydrantID has issued more than three million PKI credentials and secured more than 125,000 domains, something HID sees as a complement to its portfolio of solutions.
HydrantID provides PKI-as-a-service solutions that address critical network and IoT system security needs for enterprise, government, financial, and other information security-conscious customers. Most of these IoT systems are expected to be online by 2020 and use IP-based protocols that require PKI-based authentication to protect machine identities on a network and IoT data.
"We are evolving HID's Identity and Access Management business to provide end-to-end solutions for PKI services across the enterprise," said Stefan Widing, President and CEO of HID Global. "With the acquisition of HydrantID, we can now offer enterprise customers a wider range of options, in addition to the flexibility and scalability of PKI as a service to improve information security."
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, HydrantID offers certificate authority services that secure IoT systems, enterprise networks, publicly trusted SSL website certificates, and client certificates for e-commerce. Using a hybrid cloud trust architecture delivered from a next-generation data center and scalable cloud platform, HydrantID's solution helps its customers reduce operational complexities while extending the use of certificate-based authentication and encryption across their organization.
A key benefit of HydrantID is its ability to automate events and certificate lifecycle distribution using industry-standard protocols and "out-of-the-box" integration with common enterprise networking software and platforms.
HydrantID will join HID IdenTrust, under HID's Identity and Access Management business, led by Brad Jarvis, Vice President and Managing Director. In early 2019, HID IdenTrust was named, for the second consecutive year, the number one certification authority in the world.
