Colombia. A group of women was given the task of collecting learning spaces and starting a leadership initiative that would allow the formation of a community that would generate scenarios of communication, study and promotion of participation and female inclusion in computer issues.
From there was born the initiative known as the Hackers Girls Latam, a group of girls who will be in the framework of the International Security Fair, E + S + S 2019, which will be held from July 2 to 5 in Corferias and which will hold a conversation on Digital Security in which they will discuss different topics related to how women visualize security in the country, whether or not there is discrimination, and what is the perspective of women on the issue of cybersecurity.
Leidy Carvajal, co-organizer of Hackers Girls Latam, revealed that "we will show at the Fair our technical skills by talking about our experience and study in the topics of technology and cybersecurity, making known that the inclusion of women in these developments is not fashion or a catwalk of hacker girls, but the opposite, professionals capable of competing at the height of any expert".
She added that "through our community we work to include more women in security, we go to congresses, universities and colleges to convene them and, in turn, we compete in events that have allowed us to win awards and recognitions that measure knowledge on the subject."
She admits that there are many challenges to be met, such as the breaking of stereotypes, inclusion in terminology and female talents in the roles of the sector, wage and gender discrimination, which through the linking of new knowledge and women to the sector, will give way to the reduction of the current gap in this line.
The technology and cybersecurity industry has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the migration of sectors of the economy to the world of digitalization. Proof of this is that, according to Forbes, these professions will increase at a rate of 36.5% until 2022 and, according to the Society for Human Resources Management, the need for people linked to the cyber issue will grow to 6 million jobs worldwide by this year.
Of the world's total female population, only 11 percent are linked to cybersecurity issues according to the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu, WSC, revealing a wide gender gap.
