ONVIF, the global leader of the initiative for the standardization of IP-based physical security products, hosted its annual member meeting on October 25, to update members on ONVIF's achievements in 2016 and its outlook for the coming year. ONVIF member companies attended presentations on the final launch of Profile Q in 2016 and the ongoing development of Profile T for video, as well as learning about the growing dominance of the more than 7000 compatible models of ONVIF products that are in bidding and specification processes in projects around the world.
In the opening remarks of the webinar, ONVIF Steering Committee Chair Per Björkdahl highlighted ONVIF's collective achievements over the past 12 months, including the ongoing work done by the organization together with the International Electrotechnical Commission regarding its IEC 62676-2-3 standard for network video customers and video transmitting devices. Björkdahl also mentioned that the formation of the ONVIF Use Case Working Group is an important step in growing opportunities for member input.
Björkdahl announced the winners of the 2016 ONVIF Award, which recognizes individuals and companies that have made significant contributions to the industry and to ONVIF. The winners of the 2016 ONVIF Award are: Sriram Bhetanabottla of Canon, Robert Haraldsson of Axis Communications and Hiroyuki Sano of Sony.
"Sriram, Robert and Hiroyuki have contributed significantly to the development of our device testing tool, device test specification and Profile Q, our latest profile for enhanced and out-of-the-box functionality," said Björkdahl. "As a member-driven organization, it is important to recognize members who dedicate several hours of service to the work of ONVIF."
Hans Busch of Bosch, Chairman of the ONVIF Technical Committee, spoke to members about the specification's development plan and its convergence with standardization activities within the scope of iec TC 79 working groups for video monitoring and physical access control standards. Technical Services Committee Chair Andreas Schneider of Sony presented an overview of the Committee's work on profiles, testing tools, the compliance process and developer Plugfests, and also provided more information on the development of future profiles. ONVIF Communications President Jonathan Lewit of Pelco by Schneider Electric followed the Technical Services Committee with a recap of ONVIF's internal and external communications in 2016.
Stan Moyer, Executive Director of ONVIF, announced the results of ONVIF's annual elections for committees. Mayur Salgar of Honeywell and Stuart Rawling of Pelco by Schneider Electric were re-elected to the ONVIF Steering Committee. For the Technical Committee, Ramesh Subbaiah of Honeywell, Steve Wolf of Pelco by Schneider Electric and Hasan Ozdemir of Panasonic were re-elected, while Sungbong Cho of Hanwha Techwin joined the Committee as a new member. Bob Dolan of Anixter and Andrew Downs of Pelco by Schneider Electric were re-elected to the Technical Services Committee, who were joined by new Committee member Giri Guntipalli of Honeywell. Tim Shen of Dahua was appointed as a new member of the ONVIF Communication Committee, while Mike Mao of Honeywell and Jonathan Lewit of Pelco by Schneider Electric were re-elected to the Committee.
ONVIF was founded in 2008, and now has nearly 500 member companies from six continents and more than 7000 profile compatible products.
