Colombia. Cali is the city with the most security cameras in the whole country. This was indicated a few days ago by the Minister of the Interior, Juan Fernando Cristo, who delivered 470 more cameras to the capital of the Valley.
With this delivery, Cali adds a total of 1294 cameras distributed throughout the city, to monitor citizen behavior.
According to the minister, with these cameras 480 new police display points are added in the urban perimeter.
In addition to the cameras, the Metropolitan Police opens the largest monitoring center in the country, with two rooms arranged for the attention of line 123, used for emergency reporting. The monitoring room is called the Command, Control, Computing and Communications room, C4.
The total investment was $29,560 million (US$9.1 million), of which $22,170 (US$7 million) was invested by the Ministry and $7,390 (US$2.1 million) by the Municipality.
The delivery of the devices is part of the 'Live Safe, Live in Peace' program of the Ministry of the Interior that seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of the action of the Police against crimes of high impact on citizens.
"Today we are formally delivering the most modern video surveillance system in the entire country. Cali, as of the date, is left with more than 1,200 video surveillance cameras, full coverage in all parts of the city, the monitoring center in the Police command and four satellite monitoring centers in the same number of communes, "explained Minister Juan Fernando Cristo.
In this regard, the Secretary of Government, Laura Lugo, said that the most important thing "is that these chambers are going to provide us with prevention and judicial power; will serve to prevent violent acts or homicides, since in video it has been recorded how, thanks to cameras of these, suspicious individuals are followed up and disarmed and handed over to the competent authorities.
