Mexico. Bombardier Transportation will be the supplier of 12 TEG-15 model railroads made up of two cars each, as it won a contract to supply vehicles to the Guadalajara Urban Electric Train System. The company reported that the 29.56-meter-long carbon steel articulated trams will run in pairs and are designed for a maximum capacity of 48 seated passengers and more than 300 standing passengers per vehicle. The system will have video surveillance and fire detection.
The Guadalajara Urban Electric Train System (Siteur) will have trains that will feature innovations such as an Onboard Video Recording System (OVRS), a new fire and smoke detection system, LED lighting technology and may be wheelchair accessible.
The Canadian firm, which from its production plant in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, has supplied more than 70% of all passenger train vehicles in Mexico, said it developed several features in the vehicles to improve the experience for people using Guadalajara's public transportation system.
According to Raymond Bachant, president of the Canadian company Americas Division, the trains have proven to be a success, having high reliability and low maintenance cost. The new vehicles will be mechanically, electrically and pneumatically compatible with SITEUR's TEG-90 model vehicles and will run at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
The new design of the Light Rail vehicles will be based on the current fleet of TE-12 vehicles that were previously supplied by Bombardier to the Electric Transport Service of the Federal District (STEDF) in 2014, with a re-stylized cabin design.
Bombardier Transportation's team in Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, leads the development of the process, from design and engineering to the complete production and commissioning of the vehicles. In this factory, 65% of the fleet of the Mexico City Metro (STC), 100% of the fleet of the Electric Transport of Mexico City (STEDF), 74% of the fleet of the Urban Transit System of Monterrey (Metrorrey) and 100% of the fleet of the Urban Electric Train System of Guadalajara (SITEUR) were manufactured.
