International. ONVIF, the world's leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, has announced that it already has nearly 5,000 IP-based physical security products registered as ONVIF compatible, which has surpassed the figure of more than 500 member companies, and which has developed its fifth profile specification – Profile A for advanced access control, which was sent to the industry for feedback.
These milestones signify the continued development and influence of ONVIF as an important interoperability driver in the physical security market. "End users in the wider consumer industry and consumer market now expect basic interoperability when making purchases, and manufacturers are responding by making products more interoperable by using ONVIF specifications," said Per Björkdahl, Chairman of the ONVIF Steering Committee. "We are proud to have reached these milestones in ONVIF's growth and development and look forward to working with our members and the industry at large to further promote interoperability in the marketplace."
5,000 compatible products and 500 members
Over the past 12 months, the number of ONVIF compatible products increased by 1,300, an increase of about 35 percent. Also in the last year, ONVIF reached more than 500 members, a membership spanning six of the world's seven continents.
Fifth Profile – Profile A
The fifth and latest ONVIF profile – Profile A for Advanced Access Control – is designed to establish an interface for access control clients and expand configuration options for ONVIF-compliant access control systems. Profile A is available on the ONVIF website as a candidate version for launch.
"ONVIF's latest release of the candidate version of Profile A was designed to meet the market's growing need for a more advanced access control profile," said Neelendra Bhandari, Engineering Lead at Honeywell Security, a member company of ONVIF. "This illustrates ONVIF's commitment to staying in tune with the needs of its members and the industry, which is reflected in its continued development of new profiles and in the ongoing work to promote interoperability."
With Profile S for video streaming, Profile G for recording and storage, Profile C for physical access control, Profile Q for easy installation and advanced security features, and Profile A for advanced access control settings, ONVIF continues to work with its members to expand the number of IP interoperability solutions that ONVIF compatible products can offer.
