Latin America. Fortinet announced that it will host the ninth Annual Xtreme Team, in Cancun, Mexico. This event offers digital security experts the opportunity to share information on recent threat trends, as well as best practices and tips for developing new approaches to cybersecurity issues with systems engineering professionals from across Latin America.
It uniquely offers interactive, hands-on sessions to participants, designed to help them expand their technical expertise on Fortinet's end-to-end platform and increase their skills to design best-in-class solutions to protect customers from cybercrime.
"We are proud to host this annual event. Every year it attracts more and more security professionals thanks to our experience and industry knowledge," said Pedro Paixao, General Manager and Vice President of International Sales for Fortinet Latin America. "The threat landscape is changing rapidly and security experts know that staying up-to-date is key. In fact, over the past year we saw for the first time attacks on Android and linked to the Internet of Things within our list of the top 10 global threats. In particular, the Latin American technology community and our partners must be aware of these changes so that they are able to offer solutions and expert support to customers across the region."
From July to October 2015, Fortinet detected 222,361 malware attacks, the most popular being those against key servers (JavaScript, PHP) in Latin America (including Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Chile and Argentina). Even, the number of intrusion attempts detected was 191,965,365, including IPv6 attacks, which resulted in denial of service, as well as targeted and specialized attacks (including remote PHP files), used to plant malicious code (PHP such as PhpShell) in order to steal information and expand the damage within the affected system, at the enterprise level and even globally.
These trends, including Mobility, Cloud, Social Business and Big Data (also known as the Third Platform) will be discussed during the ninth Fortinet Xtreme Team event to help participants be better prepared and provide the best service to their customers. It is an extreme training in which more than 200 highly specialized business representatives are expected at the technical and consulting level. It is designed for pre-sales and technical support consultant engineers to educate them on the world's most important security trends and familiarize them with Fortinet's vision and cybersecurity architectures.
Education is a priority for Fortinet, so participants will have the opportunity to take advantage of the labs and be prepared for Fortinet's industry-leading "Network Security Expert (NSE)" certification, which independently validates their network security knowledge and expertise.
Fortinet launched its annual Xtreme Team event in Latin America in 2006; adding an event in Canada in 2010. Since then, the company has provided Fortinet's representative partners with exclusive training, content, sales awards and technical excellence. Thanks to its continued growth success, Fortinet expanded this year for the first time the reach of its Xtreme Team event to the United States, With this investment, even more partners will have the opportunity to extend their vision, acquire new technical skills, increase their expertise in Fortinet's innovative technologies and grow their businesses.
