Argentina. In the cities of Rosario and Santa Fe, a new monitoring system was implemented that allows capturing vehicle patents and comparing the images with a police database to determine if they have a request for capture.
The provincial government reported that in this first month of testing, 1,500 positive photos were taken and more than 400 vehicles with police records were located.
Diego Rulo, provincial director of Technologies for Security explained that "every vehicle that passes, its patent is detected and checked with the capture order database and generates alerts with the monitoring center."
Currently there are 40 cameras in Rosario and 20 in Santa Fe, in the accesses of the city and in other specific points. Rulo said that "the idea is to end the year with 80 cameras in the province" and anticipated that "in the short term this software will also provide useful material for cases of traffic accidents, for infractions and for all kinds of information for Justice."
