TE Connectivity explains the trend and benefits of FTTH in Latin America

Mexico. TE Connectivity, a global company that designs and manufactures solutions that touch all aspects of our daily lives, connecting and protecting the flow of food and data, explains in an infographic important points that stand out in the adoption of Fiber Optics to the Home, in addition to the benefits and services that this technology brings.

As a first aspect, it is shown that Latin America has exceeded 15 million homes passed, which refers to the number of potential homes to which the operator has the ability to connect.  According to data from the Ftth Council released during the 2015 conference in Chile, about 20% of these homes are already connected to the service and it is expected that in the coming years this figure will increase to more than double the current one.

Brazil and Mexico are the two countries in the region that are closest to one million connected homes with 950,000 and 910,000 subscribers respectively. In the case of Mexico, the largest fiber operator is working on an ambitious project that would allow it to reach 7.5 million homes by 2019. In the case of Brazil, in 2014 alone the coverage of this service doubled. Behind these markets are the countries of Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Puerto Rico that also have their own implementation projects by local and regional operators and telecommunications companies. The high adoption rates in the region account for the potential of Fiber Optics towards the Home not only as a connectivity technology, but as a business model itself. Only the largest operator in Uruguay has achieved by 2014 an FTTH penetration of 43% in the South American country.

"The adoption of Fiber Optics to Home and Business represents an unprecedented advance in the Capacity, Speed and Reliability of telecommunications service networks. It is a technology that allows incredible amounts of data to be transported in a small cable space and that can transmit at speeds that exceed in hundreds and even thousands of times those we currently have, "says Fernando Barrera, Regional Sales Manager of TE Connectivity.

In terms of customer satisfaction, FTTH has the highest reliability rates, which is why operators are assured of high profitability and a quick return on investment in their network deployments with this technology.

The digital services that can be implemented in a Fiber Optic network will allow to connect all the devices in the home and support the next generation of online games in high definition, 3D Television, UHD Video, Holography and other services that we do not yet imagine, but that will be present in the next decade.5

TE Connectivity is a key player in the Fiber Optic revolution to Home and Business as it offers products and services that allow networks to be built and services more intelligently, quickly and better.

The company combines state-of-the-art technologies to offer best-in-class service. TE has end-to-end solutions so that telecommunications operators and companies can deploy Fiber to Home and Business networks, easily with low operating costs and future-proof.
