Video surveillance will be a solution in security of Uruguayan stadiums

Uruguay. Six Uruguayan companies presented their proposals in an open tender to sell "the video surveillance and access control system by recognition" to the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), which promised to finance it. The cameras and software will automatically recognize those fans who have lost the right of admission to football shows.

The company Erebil SA, which bid for US$ 367,977, was discarded, sources linked to the tender told El Observador, for not complying with the conditions of the tender specifications, which were designed by the Ministry of the Interior.

With Erebil SA out of the race, five companies are still competing to win the millionaire tender, which promises to be one of the two solutions that the government manages to combat violence in football. The other is the creation of the figure of the sports prosecutor, who will have the power to suspend a match in case of incidents, among other powers. These objectives for 2015 were disseminated in a press release by the Ministry of the Interior last Thursday, January 22.

DDBA bid for US$ 4.5 million, Vacelco SA for US$ 4.9 million, TS Group SRL for US$ 5 million, Cabo Azul SA for US$ 5.7 million and Genper SA (Prosegur) for US$ 8.1 million, the sources told local media outlet El Observador.

"The project includes a fixed system, which is the one that will be installed in the Centenario Stadium, and another mobile, acquired to be transferred to the other courts," the secretary of economic affairs of the AUF, Ignacio Alonso, told El País last week. However, the specifications establish that there will be two fixed (and eventually a third) and six mobile teams.

"This (fixed) system will have to be installed in the Centenario Stadium and in the Central Park. It should also be taken as a requirement to incorporate the Peñarol Stadium project. As an integral part of the system, which includes the installation in these two stadiums, six mobile equipment must be delivered, which allow the temporary installation of the access control system by facial recognition in the rest of the scenarios according to security needs, "says the specifications. These cameras will be placed at the entrances of the other stadiums. In the Centennial there will be 36 fixed cameras and 18 in the Central Park.
