Argentina. The Council of Santa Fe unanimously sanctioned the creation of the Municipal Program for the Survey and Optimization of Private Video Surveillance Services. Now, the video images recorded by private video surveillance systems that work in shops, industries or banks -among other entities-, can be used by the Justice and public security forces for the clarification of criminal acts.
The approved programme has four objectives:
1. Establish an accurate and detailed database of existing cameras in the city.
2. Facilitate the improvement of systems to optimize their performance and make visible the exterior of shops and their surrounding areas.
3. Promote the incorporation of chambers in shops or entities that do not yet have them.
4. Train staff and business owners in good safety practices.
The entities that join this program will have to commit to store the images captured during the last 24 hours. In the event that the process of investigating a crime is carried out, they must deliver the recordings to the municipal, police or judicial officials who are authorized to remove them. The procedure will be governed by the rules of the security protocol for the disposition of images, which is in force in the city.
The proposal was presented by Ariel Rodríguez (FPCyS-UCR) together with her block mate Esteban Aignasse, and in the enclosure she was accompanied by all her peers without qualms. The initiative had been agreed with the authorities of the Shopping Center, the associations of merchants of streets and avenues of the city, and with security officials of the Province and the Municipality.
