Mexico. In order to prevent more fires from being registered in the La Primavera Forest (Guadalajara), the video surveillance equipment that has just been activated will verify what is happening on the periphery of the nature reserve, as it is the place where the deflagrations mostly originate. However, an additional number of cameras will also be placed inside it.
The authorities point out that it is on the edge of the forest with urban settlements where the flames start. The last episode of consideration, recorded on April 21, occurred when a clandestine garbage dump in Colonia Arenales Tapatíos was allegedly set on fire. Therefore, the determination to prioritize the urban perimeter of the metropolitan lung.
The director of Bosque La Primavera, José Luis Gámez Valdivia, explained that some of the equipment will even be hidden among the vegetation so that they are not detected, and attacked or stolen accordingly.
The cameras are sensitive to movement, and will detect any heat points in real time to immediately displace the brigades in case a new fire occurs. The teams will work 24 hours a day, and although at the state level it will be the State Attorney for Environmental Protection (Proepa) the instance that will be in charge of them, in the Mariano Otero booth there will be a secondary monitoring point.
So far this year, the management of Bosque La Primavera has quantified 67 fires (including last April), when 120 are averaged annually.
The video surveillance system will detect the fire from the moment it starts, to allocate brigades as soon as possible and prevent it from spreading.
The cameras have night vision and have an approximate range of 5.5 kilometers. Its sensors will also make it possible to check weather conditions.
It is estimated that, in practice, when corroborating a fire and reporting it to Civil Protection, your helicopter will arrive in five minutes to fight the fire.
The cameras, which are presumed "are very well protected", will have as a secondary function to classify the fauna existing in the reserve, and to know their behavior and meeting areas.
The intention is that the next administration will allocate more resources and install more cameras, in order to cover more forest land in surveillance.
