Mexico. Although so far those responsible for the fire that suffered the La Primavera Forest at the end of April (Guadalajara, Jalisco) have not been identified, the Federal and State governments are preparing an innovative project that is characterized by the installation of a security camera system to reinforce the surveillance of the so-called urban lung.
Gerardo González Blanquet, federal delegate in Jalisco of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), announced that the economic support committed by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, for the attention of the urban forest, after the burning of more than eight thousand hectares, was doubled.
With the bag that the Federation and the Entity will form, the cameras will be installed, the number of these was not reported for security reasons, but Gerardo González pointed out that the bidding process is already being carried out by the Government of Jalisco, because the acquisition of the equipment and the application of the resource must be carried out before the end of the two six-year terms.
In addition to the video surveillance system, the Federation, through the Temporary Employment Program, will build a watchtower, in addition to the four that exist in the area.
"They will be applied to hire people to carry out soil conservation work and it is also for the construction of a watchtower together with the municipality of Zapopan, which will tell us where to place it."
González Blanquet regretted that after the fire of 2005 a fire prevention program has not been applied, such as "Contra Fuego", which includes the video surveillance system.
