Colombia. In the city of Medellín, a project is advancing through which a smart card could be used, which would serve both to pay for public transport service, such as Metro and Metroplús, and to access the payment of public services and others related to culture, recreation and sports.
The proposal was made by Aura Marleny Arcila Giraldo, councilor of this city, who will present in the coming days a draft agreement for the city to implement the card, which will be called Tarjeta Medellín and being multipurpose will prevent people from carrying money in their pockets.
"It will be like a card with money, as if it were a debit card," explained Aura Marleny, who added that the latest technology would be used to implement it to ensure that it is safe, multifunctional, portable and operational.
He also suggested that student cards implement the possibility that with them you can enter the transport system such as Metro and Metroplús to make life more comfortable and easy for this population group.
In the same vein, Councilman Fabio Humberto Rivera, who led a debate on the Integrated Transportation System (SIT) proposed that a card be created that allows citizens, from their neighborhoods, to board a bus or collective that takes them directly to any of the platforms of the system that the city currently has, such as Metro, Metroplús, Metrocable or the Tram, which is built in Ayacucho. It would be something different from the integrated ticket, in which citizens still have to handle money.
"That would give security and in part would fight vaccines, because drivers will not carry money and criminals will not be able to charge them extortion," he said.
