Puerto Rico. Lotería de Puerto Rico incorporated a surveillance system with security cameras to capture in detail all those areas that affect the process of the draws that are held weekly.
The new GeoVision security system, which consists of 11 cameras that provide 21 different shots, was provided by Avant Tecnologies, a Puerto Rican company with 20 years in the high security equipment business.
It was reported that the monitors have been assigned to specific personnel in the Lottery, who will have the responsibility of monitoring each draw, as well as the pre- and post-processes that are required.
This is one of the adjustments made by the Lottery within the framework of a major transformation. The objective is to prevent a repeat of events such as the fraud that occurred on March 7, after which a person was arrested for aggravated illegal appropriation.
The Secretary of Finance, Jesús F. Méndez Rodríguez, indicated that "this advanced security system adds to all the other initiatives and new procedures that have been adopted in the Lottery to ensure transparency and reliability in these draws. We will continue to identify and strengthen those products and/or procedures that affect the reliability of the processes of this institution that has been serving Puerto Rico for 77 years."
Similarly, Méndez Rodríguez said that this system, in which US$10,000 has been invested, allows each shot to be manipulated to bring peripheral movements closer and appreciate details that regular cameras could not obtain.
He added, in addition, that this system of security cameras has among other purposes, the purpose of complementing security. With the new cameras, the Lottery company already has a total of 80.
