Mexico. The government of the Federal District announced that with the implementation of programs, such as video surveillance cameras, the Metro decreased the incidence of crime by 44%.
The Head of Government of the Federal District, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, said that the Video Surveillance System implemented since 2008 in the STC Metro, and that has coverage in most cars and trains, has reduced the incidence of theft by 44%
While in 2008 there were 827 robberies, by 2011 the number decreased to 415. Meanwhile, sexual abuse went from 341 cases in 2008 to 288 in 2011.
In this regard, the director of the STC, Francisco Bojórquez Hernández, reported that 3,404 cameras are at the service of users in facilities (platforms, corridors, turnstiles, correspondences), and 1,900 cameras inside L-1 and L-2 trains.
There is a Central Monitoring Post and 21 Monitoring Centers and 5 thousand alarm buttons, in addition to the possibility of sensorization to detect intruders (elimination of cable theft) and image recognition.
Francisco Bojórquez, director of the Metro, pointed out that they have implemented security devices and with that decrease in the incidence of crime, the Metro of Mexico City is the third safest worldwide, as considered by the Metro Coordination Network, only surpassed by that of Paris and That of Beijing.
"We present the figures and results of the implementation of operations, systems, mechanisms and training to surveillance personnel to improve security in the Metro and reduce insecurity," he said.
While the head of Government, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, said that security is one of the important axes for the Metro and substantially has been made safer, with the installation of more than three thousand surveillance cameras on platforms, corridors and turnstiles.
