Oficentro avoids unjustified expenses with migration to IP

Assuming costs of damage to vehicles without having certainty that the event happened in their facilities, was the day to day of an office building in Costa Rica that saw in IP technology, and in the solutions of NVT Phybridge, the solution to this problem.

BY SECURITY SALES

Since the Law in Costa Rica establishes that public establishments must assume the costs of repairing the vehicles that are affected in their facilities, a recognized office building in that country was obliged to pay for such arrangements, without having the clarity of whether the fact had occurred within its property or not, and this was due to the fact that they did not have a video system that offered them the necessary resolution to establish the conditions of the vehicles at the time of their entry into the office, in which approximately 25 people work and an estimated 5,000 visitors per month enter.

For this reason, in July 2015 the decision was made to upgrade CCTV systems to move from analog to digital technology, so that you could always be at the forefront when it comes to security solutions. It should be noted that the migration did not occur as a result of the occurrence of any event, given that the area where the center is located is safe and where there are no major outbreaks of vandalism.

Motivations behind migrating to IP
The migration to IP – according to Jorge Montiel (CCTV technician of the Roble Group, firm in charge of the project) – stressed that at the time there were certain situations that evidenced the need to have a better resolution in the systems to be able to evidence any event that occurred within the facilities of the office. However, the expert points out that the most important reason for taking this big step was the motivation to give the best possible service to visitors and increase their sense of security. Montiel explains that there are still certain areas with analog technology because it was necessary to make an adjustment in the budget and it is expected that the project will be fully completed by the end of 2017.

"During the installation we had the challenge of not completely touching the finishes of the buildings, so rewiring was not an option and we had to use the existing wiring (coaxial) and in turn centralize the feeds," says Montiel, who adds that although they considered several solutions, all implying a great impact on the aesthetics of the building, decided that NVT Phybridge's solution was the right one. The CCTV technical team made the recommendation based on the facilities offered by the NVT Phybridge solution for migration to IP.

"(...) With respect to the other proposals analyzed, the NVT Phybridge alternative represented a 30% saving due to the possibility of using the existing wiring," Montiel explained.

State-of-the-art technology at the service of an end
Punctually this project demanded the installation of 11 EC10 switches, from the CLEER reference of NVT Phybridge. In addition, a total of 41 cameras with varifocal lenses from 2.8 to 10mm were migrated.

In this regard, the Montiel explains that this system fulfills the functions of monitoring and recording, and is integrated with the access control solution to monitor doors and entrance tops through the CCURE 900 software.

In addition, the system offers the video analytics function, which indicates when a person tries to evade the entrance turnstiles. Fire and access control systems are also integrated.

Regarding the sense of security before and after this move to IP, Jorge Montiel emphasizes that before the migration there was uncertainty regarding whether sufficient evidence would be obtained in cases of vehicle damage. "We did not have that support from the team, in terms of the resolution to be able to support those cases and when appropriate, refute the damages that some user would like to attribute to the office center," says Montiel.

Another important achievement achieved thanks to the equipment implemented is to have been able to use the existing wiring, which not only allowed to avoid rewiring expenses, but it was not necessary to make a greater impact on the infrastructure.

"This project allowed us to learn that there are solutions to problems, but we must find them with professionals in the field. That search must be constant," says Montiel, who also says that the main conclusion is that it is important to be at the forefront, attentive to new solutions to provide our customers with the best technology in their visit to the projects in charge of Grupo Roble.

For the expert, NVT Phybridge technology has an incomparable quality before any manufacturer, in addition its installation manuals are so clear that they facilitate installation. As far as the quality of the video is concerned, there is total certainty that this and the protection of the equipment are fully supported, that is why the guarantee issues are the added value by which the negotiation with this brand is carried out without problems. The above without neglecting that the support pages of NVT Phybridge clearly show how to download the user manuals and how to contact the manufacturer.

For all the above, the spokesperson of Grupo Roble affirms that the investment with NVT Phybridge is fully justified. "We have confidence in the brand for its guarantee and quality of the equipment, which has managed to meet the needs of our users; this means that when we execute a new project of security systems, we always take into account the equipment of this manufacturer and we require our suppliers to use them, "says Montiel.

Likewise, the spokesman assures that they prefer NVT Phybridge – with whom they have planned two projects for 2017 – because they have been using the equipment of this brand for many years and have not been disappointed. In fact it has worked so well that they continue to work with this manufacturer and since the beginning of Grupo Roble (20 years ago) they have always had NVT Phybridge.

During the writing of this note it was found that the project included a later phase, which consisted of the installation of 12 chambers in elevators of the building; for this, the NVT-ET1801 devices were used with coaxial through the traveling cable of each elevator.
