Monitoring anomalies and hazards in a mine

Radomiro Tomic is the first division of Codelco to acquire this innovation developed by the Bosch Group, which consists of special cameras that allow 24/7 eye contact to monitor what happens in the pit, especially in those places of risk.

After two years of testing and consolidation of the system, the Radomiro Tomic division implemented the technology developed by the Bosch Group, which allows 24/7 monitoring of the rock massif, thus detecting and controlling any anomaly or danger in the mine.

Thanks to this dual vision image capture technology, which provides information to the operator continuously, there is a permanent visual contact, regardless of the lighting conditions, the time of day or the movement of the object.

With the incorporation of this equipment, the Codelco division has remote monitoring, a detection range of one person of up to 1.5 kilometers and also locate the cameras at height, inverted and in small spaces, given their mounting flexibility.

All of the above, under demanding operating conditions, since -according to accelerated laboratory tests- they have an average time between failure (MTBF) of up to 186,000 hours, thus reducing the costs associated with maintaining this equipment.

"Bosch's special cameras are designed to withstand severe weather conditions. This includes strong winds, rain, fog, dust, humidity, thermal oscillations, vibrations and high impacts. Superior metallurgy and chamber finish provide unprecedented corrosion protection. They can also withstand wind gusts of up to 290 KM/H," explained The Manager of Bosch's Safety Systems Division, Marcos Menezes.

For the Superintendent of Geotechnics of the Radomiro Tomic division, "it was very difficult to understand the magnitude of the deformation of the sector that was being alerted, since there is practically no vision. Thanks to these cameras with new technology, we have the possibility to see at night as if we were daytime."

This innovation also offers the option of Intelligent Video Analytics (VAT), without the need for servers to process this information, thus reducing response times and costs associated with the infrastructure.

With the incorporation of these dual-mode equipment, the division has new and high standards of monitoring and safety, technology that delivers accurate and clear data such as visualizing the edges and contours of the massifs. This information is of great importance, especially in complex situations, which require quick and timely decisions.

Essential Video Analytics, perfect for retail
Bosch is convinced that the industry's focus on high-quality images is no longer enough. Users also need to be able to focus on the most relevant data, and easily extract personalized insights into their applications.

Essential Video Analytics doesn't just protect against thieves and detect unwanted behavior. Intelligent video surveillance also offers critical data on performance in retail environments through accounting for customers, tracking the schedules with the highest traffic, and behavioral analysis. It possesses business analytical capabilities such as calculating people, providing information that can be used in various ways. For example, indicate at what time of day more visits are received.

Cutting-edge analytical video adds meaning and structure to video data, using metadata that allows the camera to understand what you're seeing. In effect, it becomes "smart", allowing users to control what and how much transmitted data is stored.

Using Essential Video Analytics, users can configure alarm rules and triggers through the intuitive menu, specifying exactly which event or combination of events should throw a warning. As a result, it grants relevant alerts and key statistics. These increase the accuracy of the video surveillance system, offering important data for various non-security applications (such as visitor counting) and substantially decrease the margin of error and time involved in 24/7 human surveillance.

The DINION and FLEXIDOME IP starlight 6000 are the first cameras to include Essential Video Analytics as a standard. All Bosch IP cameras 4000 to 6000 in the future will have it already incorporated.
