Perimeter Security

Establish a group of basic knowledge for security professionals and technicians showing the essential elements required for the planning and design of the perimeter security of a project. Through the review of basic concepts, methodologies and examples, it is intended to offer the appropriate tools and criteria for an orderly and responsible planning of perimeter security.

The main objective of this program is to show how through the proper integration of people, procedures and equipment in a project, it is possible to improve the perimeter security of a site by reducing the rates of false alarms and meet the general objectives of physical security established.

This course is aimed at managers, technical, operations and sales managers, technicians and installers who are in contact day by day with physical security projects that include perimeter security. It is recommended for people who have at least 6 months of experience in the security industry. Those with several years of experience in the field will find the course valuable, showcasing key aspects and concepts that are traditionally not considered and offering an update on current perimeter security trends.

Duration

18 academic hours divided into two days.

Certificate and credential

This course gives those who pass the Final Exam, an WINGS certificate. People who do not pass the exam receive a diploma of attendance. It is possible to take the course again, to repeat the exam and get the certificate.

Parts of the Course

The course contains 10 chapters:

Chapter 1: Presents a definition of physical security, perimeter security, and the location of perimeter security within the framework of physical security.

Chapter 2: Covers basic concepts used in perimeter security related to the probability of detection of an alarm, false alarm rates and vulnerability of defeating a sensor.

Chapter 3: This chapter shows the basic functions that an edge security system should include, as well as its performance measures.

Chapter 4: Presents the suggested order for the design and evaluation of a perimeter security system.

Chapter 5
: A methodology is offered for the determination of objectives based on the information of the site to be protected, the existing threat and the target to be protected.

Chapter 6: The general design criteria as well as the most common perimeter sensing technologies today and the various basic functions that complement them are studied.

Chapter 7: The analysis of an already protected site is carried out using a quantitative method, in order to determine the degree of security obtained, being able to modify parameters and key concepts in order to improve the quality of security.

Chapter 8: Covers basic concepts of risk analysis as well as existing risk management options.

Chapter 9: 5 case studies referring to industrial and commercial projects are reviewed in detail and where some of the technologies seen in Chapter 6 are exemplified.

Chapter 10: Summary of the course.

Methodology: Lectures with PowerPoint presentation, group discussions, hands-on work led. Active participation is requested. The student has full freedom to ask questions pertinent to the topics presented and is encouraged to share his ideas and experiences with the instructor and other participants.

About the instructor

Sergio Rivera García is an Electrical Mechanical Engineer (Universidad Panamericana, Mexico City, Mexico) and has 10 years of experience in the field of perimeter security, having received training in perimeter sensors in Canada, the United States and Israel. Mr. Rivera has experience planning the perimeter security of high-risk projects in most Latin American countries in projects that include airports, prisons, electricity generation/transmission plants, oil industry, mining industry, and ports. Additionally, he has given lectures and presentations on perimeter security and perimeter sensor technology at various international security events in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. Throughout his career, Mr. Rivera has held management positions in the technical and commercial area in various firms dedicated to the development and manufacture of perimeter sensors.
