Work, dedication, effort

CPP Bladimir AlvaradoBladimir Alvarado is convinced of the importance of safety training, which is why he hopes that professionals in Latin America will increasingly turn to improving their skills to achieve a better industry.

By Alejandra García Vélez

Hard work, determination and always moving forward with a clear goal in mind, are for our CPP of the month, Bladimir Alvarado Lozano, the keys to success. This is what he shows when he tells the story about how he achieved his certification as a security professional.

Alvarado took the exam twice for CPP, in the first opportunity he reached 648 points of the 650 required to pass, while in the second he far exceeded the minimum necessary, his strategy? Set a goal and focus all your energies on achieving it.

"In the first exam study very hard, you can imagine the feeling of helplessness after so much effort missing as always the penny for the peso," said Alvarado when talking about the subject, but added that "for my second exam I adjusted my specific goal, it was no longer to reach 650 points, but, 800."

Thus, together with two classmates, he dedicated himself, for 10 days, to study eight hours a day, added to two additional hours each day to develop self-exams. "In the group of 95 applicants to certify that we presented the exam, effectively only the three colleagues who days before we had literally quartered ourselves to prepare ourselves were certified."

This CPP ends his account by stating that achieving certification is easy if you dedicate enough effort, all you need is to want and make all the effort possible to achieve the goal.

In addition to his training as a CPP, Bladimir Alvarado, a native of the city of Cali, Colombia, has among his qualifications the title of Business Administrator and is an Airport Security Technologist.

To the above he adds that he is a specialist in Security Administration, from the Nueva Granada Military University in agreement with the San Buenaventura University, a specialist in Risk Management and Insurance Administration, from the Gran Colombiano Polytechnic University and is an MBA candidate at the Viña Del Mar University in Chile.

History

This professional has 23 years of experience in security and defense of air bases, in fact, he served as director of the technological program in airport security of the Military School of Non-Commissioned Officers of the Colombian Air Force, academic director of Andross Ltda. and for four years he has worked as national director of risk management of Atlas Seguridad.

Despite his years of experience, Alvarado does not forget his beginnings and especially remembers the one he considers his teacher and mentor.

"My link to the industry was born from the moment my great teacher, Guillermo Pedraza, to whom I owe all my knowledge, was interested in my resume to accompany him in the development of his strategy and consolidate the security doctrine of ASIS International, to spread the importance of certification as CPPs in our lives as security professionals", said the guest of this edition to talk about the subject.

Precisely, Alvarado is convinced of the importance of training. He explains that for him this process has two objectives, the first to achieve the knowledge that allows to improve the conditions of suitability and competences under International standards. The second has the endorsement and recognition by the International Association of the Security Industry, as a professional in each and every one of the aspects that make up the Integral security of organizations.

"The security industry benefits directly in the different sectors on which CPPs present cost-effective strategies, in their security projects and technological development, under the concept of prevention, not reaction, generating a culture and breaking the paradigm of considering safety an expense and not an investment", Said.

He also emphasized that "the increase in professionalization will eliminate outright the empiricism that currently has flooded the security departments of companies, so it has not been possible to generate a strategic development of security for organizations."

Installing a culture of safety in each company is the main challenge faced by CPPs, said Alvarado when asked about his experiences in these 23 years of work.

For him, one of his main functions is to develop strategies that contribute to the creation and strengthening of awareness in security, responsibility and personal commitment to organizations and their family environment.

"When there is a culture of safety, it is clear the importance of it and the personal responsibility for its application, not so much in the workplace, but also in everyday life," he emphasized.

He also stressed that the CPPs are able to identify the conditions that may generate situations that affect the achievement of corporate objectives from each and every one of the cardinal points of the organization and in a transversal way in the organizational structure. "That's where risk management and security for senior management become relevant," he said.

But the challenges do not end there, the globalization of markets, for example, makes technological development an obligation. In the same way, the update in administrative and managerial technical knowledge is indispensable, said our guest. "It is the only way to be competitive in the face of the arrival of markets with greater development, but at the same time require our sector for the normal performance in their operations," said Alvarado.

In addition, he stressed that "the certification allows to endorse each and every one of the global competencies in risk management, which professionals in the world require to assume responsibly the challenges that globalization itself demands of organizations to guarantee their durability and business continuity in the face of adverse situations of natural origin, social or operational".

Finally, this professional makes an invitation to work for the recognition of the work of the CPP, stressing that they can no longer be seen as security chiefs, but that their responsibility and scope is much greater.
