04/05/2011. The Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District must send to the Legislative Assembly a detailed report on the multi-year contract it signed to lease 800 vehicles that are used to patrol the streets of the capital.
This was announced by the president of the Surveillance Commission of the Accounting Office of finance of the ALDF, Leonel Luna, who said that it is the obligation of the dependencies to be transparent and accountable for public resources.
The PRD leader reported that on Monday he sent a letter to the head of the capital's SSP, Manuel Mondragón, to explain the rental of two thousand vehicles at a higher cost and four times higher than the commercial value.
"To this request, the SSP-DF promised that in the coming days it would send the information of the scheme that was used to rent around 800 patrols, 180 vans and a thousand motorcycles that use the elements of the dependency," he explained.
He said that since last Monday he also sent a letter to the comptroller of the capital government, Ricardo García Sainz, with the purpose of indicating if the body in his charge has carried out reviews of this area and what information he has in this regard.
"We are aware that according to a multi-year contract, the SSP-DF has leased 32 percent of the vehicle fleet since December of last year," he said.
The assemblyman said that in order to make the exercise of public resources transparent, the head of the agency was asked to explain the reasons why he opted for the lease and not for the acquisition of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, he said that the comptroller must report on the actions and, where appropriate, reviews that have been made with respect to the patrol lease contracts by the local Ministry of Public Security.
