06/05/2011. Last April, the perception index on public security in Mexico stood at 95.5 percent, representing an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the same month in 2010, when it was 94 points.
In its report, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) announces that this increase is registered after the indicator, the result of the survey carried out by the agency in 32 cities of the country, stood at 93.7 points, a decrease of 2.5 percent compared to 96.1 in the same month last year.
It points out that the annual increase in April 2011 was due to the growth registered in three of the five components that make it up.
Thus, it details that last month, the indicator on the perception of current personal security compared to that of 12 months ago stood at 93.2 points, a figure 2.4 percent lower than that reported in the same month of 2010, when it was 95.6 points.
Meanwhile, he adds, the partial indicator that compares the situation of personal security expected within a year compared to the current one resulted in April of 100.2 points, 1.6 percent higher than the 98.6 points observed in the same month a year earlier.
It states that the component related to the perception of public security in the country today compared to that of 12 months ago stood at 90.3 points, which represents a drop of 3.6 percent compared to 93.7 points in April 2010.
The agency points out that the reference to the expectation of public security in the country within 12 months with respect to the current situation was 96.4 points, higher than the 94.9 points reported in the fourth month of 2010, which implied an annual advance of 1.6 percent.
Meanwhile, he adds, the indicator that measures the degree of confidence of people when walking alone on the course where they live between four and seven in the afternoon was 97.4 points in April of this year, 11.6 percent higher than the 87.2 points registered in the same month of 2010.
