The fears of the users of the popular MySQL database seem to be confirmed little by little. Oracle seems determined to make things difficult for its customers and has already announced several measures that will make its use less attractive.
The software company led by Larry Ellison recently contacted MySQL users to warn them that they would eliminate the two cheapest licenses of the program (Basic and Silver), which will have an impact on SMEs that were the ones that used this type of concessions the most. Those who want to continue using the base will have to pay 400% more, as a result of these measures.
The message sent emphasizes that MySQL license rights have not increased in six years.
Thus, Oracle warns that it will make a price increase shortly, although it has not specified the quantities.
We will have to wait for the reaction to these changes from Sun's traditional customers, accustomed to its low-cost or free solutions, a business culture that does not make Any grace to Oracle and that seems to be willing to eradicate.
