ONVIF Launches Profile G for Video Storage and Recording

altInternational. ONVIF, the world's leading standardization initiative for IP-based physical security products, today announced the launch of Profile G, the specification that includes integrated video storage, search and retrieval, and media playback.

Profile G was created to perfect interoperability between live video and video storage. It covers cameras, encoders, and network video recording (NVR) devices, as well as client systems, video management systems, building management systems, and physical security information management (PSIM) systems, among others. Profile G had been in candidate status for launch the past six months to provide an intra-industry review.

"With the completion of Profile G, we have completed the circuit, providing the means by which product manufacturers and software developers can present an integrated video system and access control at an entry level," said Per Bjorkdahl, Chairman of the ONVIF Steering Committee. "This is a true complement to our existing S and C Profiles, and takes standardized interoperability to new heights."

ONVIF introduced the concept of profiling so that end users can more easily identify functions supported by a profile without determining compatibility between versions of ONVIF specifications. Already in existence is Profile S for video and audio streaming, and Profile C, which enables interoperability between clients and devices of physical access control systems (PACS) and network-based video systems.

There are more than 3,200 products that form the S and C Profiles in the market of around 500 ONVIF partner companies.

More information about the products that make up ONVIF, including participating vendors and models is available on the ONVIF website: www.onvif.org.
