Dual cameras that open the doors to new possibilities

International. Mobotix began mass production of its new line of 6 MP Mx6 cameras, with the dual outdoor cameras M16, D16, S16 and V16. On the outside, and compared to the still available models of x15 cameras, these models do not vary, since the innovations are in the motherboard and the camera software.

The Mx6 uses a powerful new CPU that, with the same resolution, provides up to twice as many images per second. For example, in Full HD up to 34 images per second are reached. This allows for better recording of rapid movements. The new line of cameras is not only faster, but also has a greater capacity for software applications such as 3D motion analysis and license plate recognition in the camera itself. Through regular software updates, the performance of the smart camera system continues to increase. This makes investing in an Mx6 camera system a safe investment for the future.

Mx6 provides simultaneous video data in up to three different formats: MxPEG, MJPEG and, for the first time, also in H.264. In this way, Mobotix users can choose the right codec for their use and, for example, meet the requirement of high image quality with MxPEG or compatibility with an industry standard with H.264. In addition, Mx6 cameras now offer a number of classic ONVIF features, a global and open interface standard. Full onVIF (www.onvif.org) support will be achieved with one of the upcoming firmware updates. Thanks to RTSP/Multicast, the new Mx6 camera system is noticeably more powerful and flexible. Multicast allows simultaneous access to the camera to many users without reducing the video frequency. "The new camera system with H.264/ONVIF opens up a new set of integration and application possibilities for both our partners and our end customers. Mx6 manages to further improve many of the aspects that make Mobotix unique.

Thanks to the new Dual Core processor architecture, we have the best processing power a MOBOTIX camera system has ever had, the highest MOBOTIX video frequency, an intelligent 3D motion detection system and even more capacity for software applications in the camera," explains Mobotix CTO Oliver Gabel.

In a first step, the dual camera models D16, M16, S16 and V16 will be introduced. These offer the greatest number of functions and, thanks to their robust design, are especially suitable for outdoor use. Thanks to the modular system with various lens and sensor options, Mobotix dual cameras can be configured individually.

In its standard model, the M16 AllroundDual generates both excellent colour videos as well as high-contrast black and white videos thanks to its two light-sensitive sensor modules, even in low light conditions. Electronic switching between the day and night system is done automatically (without moving parts) and reliably at any temperature and weather conditions. The M16 Thermal is equipped with a powerful thermal image sensor that detects moving objects even in total darkness. A second optical sensor module can be installed at any time to safely identify objects even in low-light conditions.

With thermal radiometry (TR), temperature events can be automatically triggered to detect heat or fire sources. MOBOTIX thermal cameras also offer the "thermal overlay" function to identify so-called "hotspots" or hot spots visibly in the image. Thanks to the unique combination of dual modular sensor technology and FlexMount, the S16 FlexMount covers two areas while remaining virtually invisible. The S16 is used where individual solutions and installation methods are needed and standard cameras reach their limits.

The D16 is a DualDome camera with two image sensors that, thanks to the versatile display options, is suitable for the most diverse applications. It is available in a completely modular way as a standard DualDome, as a 180° version with a particularly wide panoramic view or as a day and night model. In a second step, MOBOTIX plans to introduce single-lens models.

The decentralized architecture offers additional advantages even in the new Mx6 dual camera models: together with the high image quality, resistance and reliability, they give Mobotix smart cameras reliable alarm management. The cameras not only offer very clear images, but also analyze the data obtained, detect risks, initiate automatic actions to avoid danger and prevent economic damage caused by theft, vandalism or fire.
