Hanwha Techwin reduces carbon footprint to help the planet

Latin America. Hanwha Techwin, a global leader in video surveillance solutions, obtained Carbon Footprint certification for its network cameras (XNB-6000, XND/O-6080R, XNP-6370RH), which were recognized as environmentally friendly products that minimize greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emissions.

The carbon footprint certification was first issued by the non-profit organisation "Carbon Trust", founded in 2007 by the UK government to tackle the problems caused by climate change. Certification measures the carbon emissions generated throughout the life cycle of a product, including the stages of production, distribution, use and disposal. Subsequently, emission levels are evaluated in relation to their impact on the environment in accordance with international measurement standards (PAS 2050), in order to determine if a certain product is eligible for certification. The name "Carbon Footprint" alludes to the fact that certification seeks to track the "footprints" generated by carbon emissions in the life cycle of a product. Since 2007, this system has spread around the world, to countries such as Korea, which adopted its own carbon footprint labeling system in 2009.  This system, supervised by the Ministry of Environment and certified by the Korean Institute of Environmental Industry and Technology, requires labeling the product with the carbon emissions generated in its life cycle.

After obtaining the first Carbon Footprint certification for CCTV in Korea with its box camera (SCB-3001) in November 2010, Hanwha Techwin continued to contribute to the promotion of the culture of low-carbon consumption by obtaining the second certification for two cameras (SNB-6004, SNP-6200RH) in March 2014, the third for one camera in February 2016 (SNP-6320RH) and the fourth, this year, for four more cameras (XNB-6000, XND/O-6080R, XNP-6370RH).

Carbon footprint certification measures carbon emission from production to disposal of goods. Most of the carbon emissions generated by Hanwha Techwin's chambers took place during the use phase, constituting about 90% of all carbon emissions from production to disposal. Hanwha managed to further reduce greenhouse gases and carbon emissions by decreasing the energy required during the use phase and improving packaging materials.
