Mexico. With technology and effective solutions in the cloud within the reach and tailored to citizens, companies, agencies and public security institutions, it contributes to collaborating, supporting and complementing the various actions that are carried out to combat organized and common crime.
In such a complex world where it is in the public domain that in various regions it is anarchic and dangerous, the safety of citizens can no longer and should only be the sole responsibility of the Public Security Authorities. For this task it is necessary and indispensable that we all participate in collaborating, supporting and complementing public security agencies and institutions in combating organized and common crime for the betterment of our society.
As part of the above, Genetec, a world-class global provider and leader in unified network-based security solutions, is currently launching a new public safety paradigm: Collaborative Video Surveillance. This program allows Citizens and Public Security Authorities, leveraged on the 911 platform, to monitor video from security cameras in a collaborative and shared way. "With this proposal, Genetec's vision is that through Stratocast™, our revolutionary cloud video surveillance service, the authorities can provide immediate and adequate response to incidents, emergencies and criminal events in development," says engineer Abelardo A. Tous-Mulkay, General Director of Genetec México, S.A, de C.V.
Collaborative Video Surveillance uses the new cloud video surveillance technologies of Genetec Stratocast™ complemented by Federation As a Service, which make possible the active participation of citizens in the use of video surveillance as a powerful anti-crime deterrent. Although it has been proven worldwide that video surveillance systems are a valuable tool for combating crime and reducing it, until now the existing technology and the high investment costs for the authorities practically limited their use. However, the success of new citizen video surveillance technologies has been remarkable.
The city of León, Guanajuato is one of the first among others in the world, such as Detroit and Sao Paulo, which have successfully implemented Collaborative Video Surveillance programs. "So far a total of 17 states of the Mexican Republic, through eleven service providers, partners of Genetec, will be offering a Collaborative Video Surveillance service through a monthly payment by the citizen between 495 to one thousand 500 pesos per camcorder depending on its functionality and characteristics. With this, state and municipal governments do not invest in security cameras since it incorporates those of the citizen, which brings with it a very significant reduction in investment and expenses of public entities, "concludes engineer Abelardo A.Tous-Mulkay.
Instead of having only hundreds of cameras of the State or Municipality, limited by the availability of budgetary resources, citizen collaborative video surveillance opens the possibility of multiplying exponentially and being able to deploy tens of thousands of cameras owned by citizens, but monitored by public security authorities to guarantee a preventive response, immediate and appropriate to criminal incidents and events.
In this way, residences, industries, gas stations, banks, shops, supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, bars and liquor stores are efficiently monitored for any event through Genetec's Stratocast cloud video surveillance system, as well as places and sites of a public nature.
