Genetec Announces Mission Control

Latin America. Genetec announced the launch of Mission Control, a Decision Support System (DDS) that will provide security professionals with levels of situational intelligence, system visualization, and incident management.

It was designed to operate transparently with Security Center, the company's unified security platform that combines video surveillance, access control, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) and communications management. Mission Control aims to simplify operator tasks and the decision-making process when managing routine activities and undesirable situations. Genetec's Mission Control will be available in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Mission Control is ideally suited to meet the needs of large, multi-site facilities, such as the public safety, airport, oil and gas and other markets. This system will provide operators with a comprehensive, unified, map-centric view of their entire security infrastructure.  Mission Control will also go beyond the traditional capabilities of security platforms, enabling organizations to manage the entire lifecycle of incidents and situations, from monitoring incoming sensor data and detecting incidents, to resolution and auditing.

With Mission Control, organizations will be able to define their response strategy and contingency plans in advance. Based on their particular needs and environment, security and operations departments will be able to create incident categories, multi-level rules that will  trigger each, and automate system actions to address them. In addition, they will be able to assign Automated Workflows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)  to incident categories, which are triggered when an incident is detected, and guide the operator's response to ensure compliance with internal and external policies.

"Security systems have traditionally been designed to report incidents and alarms, leaving the operator to interpret the information and react to situations. However, with the increasing complexity of security facilities, and the sheer volume of data collected by multiple sensors, it can become difficult to confidently analyze complex situations or respond to threats," explained Jimmy Palatsoukas, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Genetec, Inc. "Mission Control will enable staff to take control of undesirable situations by correlating data to detect more complex situations, prioritize major incidents and threats, and remove emotions from the response by guiding operators on the go."

Mission Control gives security personnel a smarter view of an incident so they can make informed decisions. This is achieved by absorbing data from thousands of sensors and associated information in real time, and qualifying them more intelligently based on the end-user's operational environment. Once activated, incidents launch workflows that drive system behavior, and guide operator responses throughout the entire incident lifecycle by using standard operating procedures.  In addition to comprehensive incident management, Mission Control will provide operators with the ability to manage active and historical incidents, run reports for analysis and improvement purposes on an ongoing basis, and for audit purposes.

To improve and simplify the operator experience, Mission Control introduces levels of interaction within dynamic maps, including live incident monitoring and response management, to go beyond traditional maps that are usually limited to monitoring security devices, and only one event at a time. By using a map-centric approach to monitoring, command and control, operators will be able to more intuitively visualize the security environment, and take appropriate actions based on the situation.
