Colombia. A total of $500 million (about US$200,000) was invested by the authorities in the installation of nine surveillance cameras, in strategic locations in the municipality of Guachucal, Nariño. The apparatuses will allow the authorities to neutralize possible attacks and the actions of common and organized crime.
The commander of the police station, Mayor Wilson Cuastumal, told local media that these elements will guarantee the Public Force to monitor a part of the urban sector of Guachucal, including commercial and banking areas.
He also stressed that they will allow the surveillance of the Municipal Administrative Center, National Police and the main park, among others. He said that the cameras allow the presence of suspects and strangers to be detected in a timely manner.
"That is why we have guaranteed citizen security and tranquility, 24 hours a day," said the commander.
He said that the cameras were acquired with the help of Mayor Libardo Benavides, who managed the resources before the Ministry of the Interior. At the moment the municipality is waiting for another project to be made viable, which will guarantee the obtaining of 10 more cameras.
"With this number of elements, total coverage will be given to the urban sector and thus shield the population by 100%." On the other hand, he argued that the uniformed will continue with the mobile checkpoints to prevent, among others, the mobilization of contraband fuels in the area.
