Milestone Systems Expands Support for New Type of Wide-Angle Cameras

International. Milestone Systems recently released its bi-monthly Device Pack 7.8 for the XProtect® product portfolio. The most important feature of this update is the support it gives to a new type of hybrid cameras that combine PTZ (rotation, tilt and zoom) functions with 360-degree display.

An example of the new type of hybrid cameras is Axis' Q6000-E network camera. This camera allows a 360° display, thanks to four 2-megapixel heads, and when integrated with the Axis Q60-E camera model, simultaneously offers high-detail optical zoom over areas of interest.

Using XProtect's VMS, with just one click operators can use optical zoom for highly accurate zooms in on details that are of interest to them, while at the same time being able to maintain a view of large areas of up to 20,000m² (215,000 square feet), the approximate size of four football fields.

The release of Device Pack 7.8 also shows that Milestone remains committed to supporting the widest range of cameras and devices available on the market today. At the moment, more than 100 brands and more than 4,000 models are supported. This means that more than 1,000 devices have been added to the list of compatible models this year, the highest annual growth recorded so far.

"The launch of this Device Pack is a clear demonstration of the power of open platform technology. Not only are we adding a new type of camera, but we've expanded support to more than a thousand devices in a single year," said Christian Bohn, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Alliances at Milestone Systems. "This step clearly demonstrates that we are committed to ensuring our customers and business partners the broadest and most comprehensive device support in the industry, now and in the future."

Milestone XProtect Device Packs contain optimized drivers that allow you to manage all the important functions of a camera or other hardware device using Xprotect software. Milestone works closely with device manufacturers in the Camera Partner Program (CaPP) to achieve optimal interaction between their devices and the XProtect VMS. In this way, the highest quality of a video surveillance solution is guaranteed, a fundamental aspect to achieve maximum operability, efficiency and stability of the system.
