Fortinet moves forward with its improved firewall for internal networks

Latin America. Fortinet announced a new type of firewall for internal security, which will help address the long-standing challenge of internal network security and protecting critical data. The Internal Network Firewall (INFW) is aimed at countering the increasing sophistication and persistent dangers in the networks of organizations and the threats that come from within the network.

The company also announced major changes to its FortiGate firewall portfolio, which offers market-leading performance and accessibility. Until now, traditional border firewalls have not been effective as internal firewalls, due to the high level of performance required in this environment, in addition to being complex to implement.

The Fortinet Internal Network Firewall (INFW) leverages the ASIC architecture to provide multi-gigabit performance, without disrupting existing applications or systems. Its Pre-configured Transparent Mode allows for quick and easy deployment with instant visibility into network traffic. Often, the current state of network threat protection is focused on the border, whose job it is to prevent external threats.

However, this approach can be ineffective when a threat passes "beyond the door" and enters the internal network by other means such as end-points, infected flash drives or even by devices of employees or consultants, which put critical data at risk. The reality is that sophisticated hacker attacks and insider threats continue to penetrate deeply and persist, undetected for long periods of time within an organization's internal network, making it even more critical for organizations to be able to mitigate potential damage.

This is how hackers are taking advantage of typically flat internal architectures to put internal networks at greater risk. Precisely, Fortinet is unveiling a new type of security firewall to combat these internal threats, taking advantage of the proven and robust security devices FortiGate.

Fortinet's new INFW employs a layered security approach, which is closer to assets within an organization's network. Thus, it provides complete visibility of all types of traffic, users and devices, to help protect against threats within the network.

The Fortinet INFW will be available on select FortiGate Firewall appliances, which offer performance and multi-Gigabit ports that meet the internal security needs of any organization. Fortinet's legendary performance is also needed to deliver advanced threat protection, without impacting business activities.
