Chile. The National Data Center Plan is a strategy of the Pro Growth and Employment Cabinet, which seeks to position the country as a point of reference.
This was highlighted by the Minister of Science, Aisén Etcheverry (standing, right in the image), at the launch of the Plan, where she reaffirmed that technological development is key to the country's economic growth, always based on principles of sustainability, equity and territorial collaboration.
There are more than 4 billion dollars in projected investment (in data centers) that we want to materialize in our country. And we discovered that it is not only a technological industry, but also incorporates technology to meet its decarbonisation and water footprint reduction objectives, to be more efficient. It is also an industry that helps other industries to digitize, and that is why the multiplier effect of investing in this area is essential," said the Minister of Science.
And to achieve the objectives of the plan, it will seek to position Chile as an attractive investment destination for the Data Center industry, strengthening the growth of a data-based economy, where new technologies are developed that allow processing and using large volumes of information.
Data centers are physical facilities designed to house and operate servers, storage systems, networks, and the distribution of large amounts of data. These infrastructures are essential to ensure the continuous operation of digital services, ranging from business applications to mass consumption platforms such as streaming services, social networks, online banking and e-commerce.
What does the National Data Center Plan consist of?
These are 9 measures to decisively promote the growth of the data center infrastructure in our country, with the due standard of sustainability and inclusion. These measures involve public sector institutions, which have developed a strategy that aims to provide certainty regarding the conditions under which this infrastructure can be developed. In addition, it seeks to provide certainty regarding the processes and procedures that have to be followed and aims to bring environmental standards as high as possible, in public-private collaboration.

Importance and benefits
Broadly speaking, the data that travels through your phone, your banking transactions, and all your digital interactions are information that needs to be stored and processed in order to be available. This is where data centers come in, which do the job of storing all this information. It is an industry that has been growing for years around the world.
- It will allow the industry to triple in size in 5 years in a planned manner.
- It will accelerate a possible investment of US$2,500 million.
- It will foster the growth of a sustainable industry.
